OZYMANDIAS
Incontrai un viaggiatore di ritorno da una terra antica,
che disse: "Due immense gambe di pietra, senza tronco,
s'ergono nel deserto...Vicino sulla sabbia,
e il labbro corrucciato, e il sogghignodi gelido comando,
dicono che il suo scultore lesse accuratamente le passioni
che ora, impresse su quelle cose inerti, sopravvivono
alla mano che le imitò, e al cuore che le alimentava;
e sul piedestallo, queste parole appaiono:
"Il mio nome è Ozymandias, Re dei Re,
guardate le mie Opere, o voi Potenti, e disperatevi!"
Nient'altro resta. Il colossale Rudere
si disfa, e attorno sconfinate spoglie
le solitarie e uniformi sabbie si stendono lontano".

Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command, 5
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed:
And on the pedestal these words appear:
‘My name is Ozymandias, king of kings: 10
Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!’
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.
